Blog Post #2

When it comes to my experience with any Microsoft applications before college, I didn't use them at all. My schools mainly relied on Google applications, for example, Google Classroom, Google Drive, Google Docs, etc. However, I started using Microsoft exclusively when I entered Florida State University. I use Microsoft OneNote to type my notes out. Since I didn't grow up with Mircosoft Word like my peers, I'm out of the loop and don't know how to use Microsoft to its fullest potential. As my college career continues, I expect to become more comfortable with Microsoft apps and continue to use them.

The ISTE Standards for Educators I felt were the most meaningful to me was "3.2 Citizen." I feel to be a good teacher, you should want to educate your students on online safety and using technology appropriately. It's also important to teach them that being positive on the internet is the right thing to do and that everything they put on the internet should be helpful, kind, and enjoyable to everyone. Never hurtful. Students must know how to use technology safely and appropriately. This includes keeping private information far away from anything online and, if it has to be used, using it correctly.

When I first heard the term "digital native," I agreed with it and its definition. My generation definitely did grow up surrounded by technology; however, not everyone had access to it or had as high-tech parents as I did. I feel it's wrong to assume everyone who was born in my generation is a "digital native" same goes for the term "digital immigrants," I think assuming something based on age is unfair because assuming someone had access to technology growing up may cause some confrontation. Most of my teachers are tech-savvy but however, but there are a few who don't understand it as well. The same goes for people my age. Technology is something to get used to and can be hard to understand. I anticipate technology to have evolved into more by the time I teach. However, I still won't assume everyone can use it and will begin each of my classes with the same introduction to technology in case there is a student who wants to speak up and say they need help understanding the technology.
